Werner and RB Leipzig rue missed chances after Champions League defeat

"You could say my missed chances decided the game," Timo Werner said following RB Leipzig's 0-2 loss to Lyon.
RB Leipzig suffered a disappointing defeat on Wednesday as they were beaten 0-2 by Olympique Lyon at Red Bull Arena in the Champions League.

Timo Werner missed a couple of huge opportunities in the first half and admitted he felt responsible for the home side's loss.

"You could say my missed chances decided the game. I think if I score with both of those chances, we come away with a win or at least a draw. It is a bitter pill to swallow after the fact and in the moment. Unfortunately, I can't change what's happened, hopefully it goes better next time," Werner told DAZN after the game.

"Despite the result I think we played well tonight. We carved out chances to make it 1-0 and were still creating after we fell behind. Up front it just didn't go our way today and at the back we got caught napping twice. These are things we normally don't do, which is a shame," he added.

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann also felt the game would have turned out differently if his team had been more clinical in front of goal in the first half.

"We had two 1,000 percent chances to go in front which forces the opponent to invest more in the game, which makes it even harder given the tough week we've got under our belt. Weeks like this can get stuck in your legs which makes it all the more important to have a clinical touch in front of goal," he said.

RB Leipzig sit third in Group G with three points after two games.
