Augsburg captain Daniel Baier signs contract extension

Daniel Baier has committed himself to FC Augsburg by signing a new deal.
FC Augsburg captain Daniel Baier has signed a new contract with the club, keeping him at WWK Arena until 2021.

The midfielder's contract was due to run out at the end of this season, but he has now extended it by a further year.

"I have always emphasised that I would like to continue playing as long as it’s still fun for me and I can help the team. I feel really good physically and I continue to enjoy playing with this team and this club every day, so it was clear to me that I wanted to stay on. I just want to continue writing this great story with the FCA," Daniel Baier said in a statement.

After having played for Augsburg on loan in the 2008/09 season, Baier left Wolfsburg to seal a permanent move to WWK Arena in January 2010.

The midfielder has played for Augsburg ever since, and club boss Stefan Reuter is pleased that the 35-year-old will stay on board for another season.

"The fact that a player has played for a club for this long is remarkable these days. Daniel Baier is ingrained in our DNA and has shaped our game in recent years. We are therefore pleased that we can continue on the same path," said Stefan Reuter and added:

"With his experience, his great physical condition and his footballing class, Daniel Baier is very good for our team and he helps out with many of our younger players."
