Dietmar Hamann: Germany won't win Euro 2020 without Mats Hummels

Dietmar Hamann urges Germany coach Joachim Löw to let Mats Hummels return to the national team.
Germany have no chance of winning Euro 2020 unless Mats Hummels gets called up for the team once again, claims Dietmar Hamann.

Speaking in an interview with Sportbuzzer, Hamann says he finds it hard to understand why Hummels hasn't played for 'Die Mannschaft' since November 2018.

"If Mats Hummels gets called up for the European Championship, we have a small chance. Without him, I'd be very surprised if the Germans take the title," Hamann said and continued:

"If you look at international standards, our centre-backs are all good Bundesliga players, but they still have to prove that they're also good German internationals. [Matthias] Ginter, [Jonathan] Tah and [Niklas] Süle aren't 19 or 20 anymore.

There's no good reason why Hummels isn't playing for the national team. He's still the best German centre-back. And he makes others better. Tah and Ginter need to play with Hummels to take the next step, because he's a leader. There is a lack of leadership at the moment," the former German international said.

Hummels, 31, has made 70 appearances for Germany, scoring five goals.
