Report: Borussia Dortmund line up replacement for Erling Haaland

Borussia Dortmund are said to have drawn up a list of 4 targets to replace Norwegian sensation Erling Haaland if he leaves the club this summer, and one replacement that has drawn up attention is Germany forward Timo Werner.
British publication the Daily Mail (via BILD) say that the former Leipzig forward is at the top of Dortmund's list of Haaland replacements.

The 21-year-old Norwegian striker has a release clause in his contract in the region of €75m, which could rise to €90m if certain conditions are met, which becomes valid in the summer of 2022.

As such, BILD reports that Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc has already started looking at possible alternatives, with Werner's name as well as Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez's name being thrown into the hat.

The report also states that Werner would be a 'surprising solution' for Dortmund after the striker only joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in the 2020 summer window for around €58m.

Werner had a difficult first season in England, only scoring 6 times in 35 Premier League appearances, and his second season has not gone to plan either. Following the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Inter, Werner's playing time has gone down to just 9 minutes of first-team club football, whereas Haaland has scored 9 times in 7 outings in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund this season.
