Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted that 'it will be difficult' to keep Erling Haaland at the club long term.

Asked about the possibility of holding on to Haaland beyond the summer of 2022, at which point a release clause of €75-100 million in the forward's contract will reportedly become active, Watzke told Die Welt:

"Of course it will be difficult.

"I'm not saying it's completely out of the question, though. We will do everything we can to keep our top players with us in the future.

"But here, too, the question arises: what is responsible and what isn't?"

Haaland has been with a host of European top clubs, including Bayern München, Manchester City and Manchester United.
