RB Leipzig defender expected to leave for free next summer

Kicker reports that RB Leipzig are no longer looking to extend Marcel Halstenberg's contract.
Marcel Halstenberg is expected to leave RB Leipzig on a free transfer at the end of the season, at which point his contract expires.

According to Kicker, RB Leipzig no longer want to extend the contract of the 29-year-old, who has been out injured for three months.

Halstenberg turned down a new deal in the spring and went on to flirt with a transfer to Borussia Dortmund.

Despite intensive talks between the parties, however, 'Die Schwarzgelben' ultimately didn't make an offer for the 29-year-old German international.

It remains to be seen whether Dortmund remain interested. At this point, the most important thing for Halstenberg is to get back to full fitness.
