Borussia Dortmund suffered a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Marco Rose's return to Borussia-Park.
The 45-year-old coach, who joined Dortmund from Gladbach at the end of last season, was forced to do without two of his most important players as captain Marco Reus and talismanic striker Erling Haaland were sidelined with minor injuries.
Denis Zakaria opened the scoring for the home side 37 minutes into the game, beating a challenge from Mats Hummels before slotting home.
Things got even worse for Dortmund three minutes later when Mahmoud Dahoud was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.
Gladbach could have made it 2-0 on a number of occasions in the second half, but weren't clinical enough in front of goal.
Dortmund, on the other hand, struggled to create clear-cut chances until injury time when former Gladbach winger Thorgan Hazard's header went a whisker over the crossbar.
Ultimately, it all ended with a 1-0 win for Gladbach, which means that Adi Hütter's side climb to 11th place while Dortmund remain fourth.
