Mats Hummels: 'We made our own lives very difficult with the sending off'

Here's what Mats Hummels had to say after Gladbach's 1-0 win over Dortmund on Saturday evening.
Marco Rose's Borussia Dortmund side fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Gladbach on his return to his former home ground Borussia-Park on Saturday evening.

Mahmoud Dahoud was sent off towards the end of the first half just after Gladbach scored, and that made things 'extremely difficult' for Dortmund, according to Mats Hummels.

"We made our own lives very difficult with the sending-off. The match naturally became extremely difficult as a result," said the BVB centre-back, who also bemoaned the fact that Erling Haaland and Marco Reus sat out with injuries.

"We were missing two central elements of our game in Erling and Marco. We were also missing other players in attacking positions. We lacked penetration at times.

"Nonetheless, we could've done better. It was a 50-50 game until the sending-off. We worked quite well defensively and showed willpower in the second half, but we didn't deliver in the decisive moments."
