Gladbach boss explains decision to turn down Bayern München
Max Eberl explains why he decided to stay at Borussia Mönchengladbach when Bayern München came knocking on the door last year.
When Bayern München were searching for a new sporting director in 2017, the Bavarians considered Max Eberl, but the Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director closed the door to the rumors by signing a new deal with 'Die Fohlen' that runs until 2022.
Now, Eberl, who started his active career at Bayern München, says he never really considered leaving Gladbach.
"It's an honor when your name is associated with big clubs. It's a sign that you don't do your job that bad," he told Kicker and went on:
"Ultimately, I made he decision for myself: I'm not finished with Borussia yet. I want to achieve even more and ideally fulfill the dream of winning a title. Therefore, I gladly accepted Borussia's offer of a new contract."
Instead, Bayern München appointed Hasan Salihamidzic as sporting director.
