Maxence Lacroix's new contract with VfL Wolfsburg includes a release clause of €40 million, which will become active next summer, according to Sky Germany.

The highly-rated centre-back recently extended his contract with Wolfsburg by a further year until 2025.

Per Sky's report, Lacroix doubled his annual salary when he signed his new contract with the Bundesliga side.

RB Leipzig had two offers turned down for the 21-year-old Frenchman during the summer transfer window.

"I was a bit angry", Lacroix has since explained in an interview with Kicker.

"It was hard for me. I'm young, it was the first time for me that several offers came in for me. I wanted the transfer.

"But now, I'm here, playing in the Champions League, we just beat Leipzig, and we're top of the Bundesliga. It's perfect, I'm happy. I'm 100 percent here."
