Nico Schlotterbeck on being a German international: 'It's a bit surreal'
Nico Schlotterbeck has opened up on how it feels to be a German international.
SC Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck says being part of the German national team set up is 'quite a dream' and 'a bit surreal'.
Schlotterbeck was handed his first call-up for Germany's September fixtures and earned a recall to Hansi Flick's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Romania and North Macedonia.
The 21-year-old is yet to make his first appearance for the senior national team, but that could change this month.
"It's quite a dream to be here. It's something you dream about as a little kid. It's a bit surreal. But I earned my place here through my performances. I'm happy," said Schlotterbeck at a press conference today and added:
"I'm feeling very, very good. The guys have given me a warm welcome. You get along among footballers. I feel right at home. The guys have real quality.
"The coach talked to me at the first training about what he expects from me and where I can improve. The players here have a lot of experience. I can learn a lot from them."
