Report: Lucas Hernandez due in Madrid court next Tuesday
Spanish newspaper Diario AS reports that Bayern defender Lucas Hernandez has been assigned a court date that may possibly interfere with his club team's Champions League match next week.
One of Spain's main sporting dailies reports that Lucas Hernandez is due in a Madrid courtroom on October 19th for sentencing on charges related to a 2017 domestic dispute with his current wife. The court date lies one day before Bayern are scheduled to meet Benfica Lisbon in their third round UCL group fixture.
The report, as relayed in the German media by footballing magazine Kicker, states that the summons relates to sentencing. Hernandez was found guilty of violating an ex-parte restraining order during a domestic dispute with his then girlfriend whilst playing for Athletico Madrid on February 3rd, 2017.
The court rendered judgement today, sentencing Hernandez to six months incarceration. According to AS, Hernandez is to appear before the court in order to "voluntarily choose which correctional facility he wishes to report to." The article states that a request to delay the proceedings has already been denied, but an appeal of the verdict is being considered.
Hernandez and his then fiancé flew to Miami for their honeymoon shortly after the dispute in question. They were arrested upon arrival after flying back.
FC Bayern München, caught somewhat by surprise at the news, issued a statement saying that this was a "private matter to be addressed by the player."
