Florian Wirtz has received praise from former Bayer Leverkusen star Ze Roberto.
Ze Roberto has waxed lyrical about Florian Wirtz ahead of Bayer Leverkusen's clash with Bayern München.
At the age of 18, Wirtz has emerged as a key player at BayArena, racking up 15 goals and 13 assists in 55 appearances in total. This season alone, the young attacking midfielder has six goals and five assists in eight matches under his belt.
"It's impressive how Wirtz has manifested himself this season. He has shown that he rightly gives rise to great hopes," Ze Roberto told Kicker prior to Sunday's game between his two former clubs.
"You shouldn't place too much expectation on him. He's still so young. When Leverkusen reached the final of the Champions League in 2002, he wasn't born yet. But the fact that he has scored six games in a row and also sets high goals for himself publicly shows that he doesn't just have quality, but also great ambition," added the former Brazilian international.
"He doesn't let it get him down when things don't work out. He has this natural instinct to keep trying, which is essential for long-term success. Therefore, it's only logical that he's already part of Hansi Flick's Germany squad."
