Sparsely used Henrichs lobbies for chance: "I don't want to switch, but also want to play football."

Speaking to Kicker magazine for the Thursday print edition, Former German national team starter and 2017 Confederations Cup Winner Benjamin Henrichs expressed disappointment with playing only 20 cumulative minutes in all competitions this year.
While the 24-year-old has had his fair share of struggles with injury, his current place in the Leipzig pecking order was not at all what Benjamin Henrichs had in mind in his second season with the German Red Bulls. Twenty minutes in all competitions is a paltry total for the young campaign.

Henrichs played well over 700 minutes for previous trainer Julian Nagelsmann last year. Despite having injury layoffs in the 2020/21 cycle, the Nocholt native made enough appearances to trigger an automatic purchase clause. In April, he became a permanent Bundesliga player from parent club AS Monaco.

"It's a very difficult situation and not what I had envisioned," Henrichs noted in an interview appearing in the Thursday print edition of German footballing magazine Kicker, "At my age I want to play week in and week out. If that's not a possibility, then one has to think about a change."

Henrichs emphasized that he was "very happy" at Leipzig and believed in the "full team package". Moreover, he noted that he had spoken to head-coach Jesse Marsch about getting his chances and felt encouraged by the fact that the American gaffer had noticed his efforts on the training pitch.

"I don't want to switch, but I also want to play football," Henrichs noted.

An injury to Lukas Klostermann, whom Marsch has been using as his de-facto right fullback in most recent ties, should probably accord Henrichs his sought after chance this weekend against visiting Fürth.
