Second-string Germany crush Armenia

Ilkay Gündogan bagged a brace as a second-string Germany team crushed Armenia 4-1 this evening.
Germany cruised to their seventh win in seven games under Hansi Flick as they beat Armenia 4-1 away from home in their last game of 2021.

Although Germany had to manage without a number of key players, including Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry, Hansi Flick's team proved much too strong for their opponents and deservedly went 1-0 up through Kai Havertz in the 15th minute.

Ilkay Gündogan doubled the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time before making it 3-0 just after the break.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled one back with a penalty goal just shy of the hour mark before Jonas Hofmann closed the show, making it 4-1 five minutes later.

The result means Germany finish off their World Cup qualifying campaign as clear group winners, nine points clear of second-placed North Macedonia.
