Sport1 report: Neuer and Bayern near extension through 2025

German broadcaster Sport1 reports that FC Bayern München and squad captain Manuel Neuer should agree on a two-year contract-extension before the calendar year is out.
According to Sport1, Manuel Neuer and record champions Bayern München should indeed conclude a contract extension that keeps the national team net-minder between the FCB sticks just shy of his 40th birthday. The German broadcaster reports that an early extension of the 35-year-old's contract, which currently expires in 2023, should be confirmed within the next couple of months.

The agreement should make Neuer the second-highest salaried Bayern professional behind Thomas Müller. Such a move would naturally have significant ramifications for club loan-out Alexander Nübel. In an interview with German footballing magazine Kicker earlier in the week, the 25-year-old who looked to emulate Neuer's rise to prominence with his own switch from FC Schalke 04 in 2020 appeared content spending another year in Ligue 1.

Nübel nevertheless also revealed that he had no intention of returning to Germany's record champions unless playing time could be secured. Neuer's reported contract extension would keep him in a Bayern tricot through the end of the 2024/25 season.
