Lloris defends Neuer: 'He's simply the best for me'

Manuel Neuer, who has been subject to a lot of criticism lately, has been backed by France keeper Hugo Lloris who says the Bayern München captain is 'simply the best'.
Bayern München and Germany captain Manuel Neuer has received a lot of criticism for his performances lately.

It has been argued that the 32-year-old hasn't been able to reproduce his previous form after returning from a long-term injury, but France keeper Hugo Lloris says the criticism is unfair as Neuer has proved in the past just how great a goalkeeper he is.

"Judging by all that he has done for Bayern and Germany, this discussion is not fair. It's not easy if you haven't played football for nearly a year. His level is still high, and he's a great goalkeeper," Lloris told Sport1 and added:

"He's simply the best for me. There shouldn't be any doubt about Manuel Neuer. He's such a fantastic player, and he'll prove it again in the future."

Neuer was named the IFFHS World's Best Goalkeeper four times in a row between 2013 and 2016.
