Delaney: 'I'm here to challenge myself'

Borussia Dortmund's Thomas Delaney says he embraces the challenge of playing for a big club like Borussia Dortmund.
During the summer, Thomas Delaney joined Borussia Dortmund from Werder Bremen in a €20 million deal.

Since then, the Danish international has beein in the line-up for the majority of the club's games, but he has also had to settle for the bench on a few occasions.

And although Delaney admits that he would naturally like to play every time, he knows he can't expect that at a big club like Borussia Dortmund.

"It wasn't an easy decision for me. I could have switched to other clubs where I would have played every game or I could have stayed in Bremen, but I'm here to challenge myself," Delaney told DW Sports and continued:

"I would like to be on the pitch for every match, but it doesn't work like that at a club like this. I'm aware of that."

Delaney also talked about his playing style. The Dane is aware that he might not be as spectacular to watch as Marco Reus or Christian Pulisic, but the 27-year-old has other qualities.

"I'm not Marco Reus or Christian Pulisic. I'm not going to dribble across the field, go past three players and place the ball in the corner," Delaney said.

"I like it when I'm given responsibility. I feel uncomfortable when I can't help others," he added.
