It was reported yesterday that Schmidt, currently the head coach of PSV, was seen as Leipzig's preferred candidate.
However, Kicker now reports that Schmidt is no longer in contention because he wants to fulfill his contract with PSV, which expires at the end of the season.
Borussia Dortmund technical director Edin Terzic and former Schalke 04 and Lokomotiv Moscow coach Domenico Tedesco, who is currently unemployed, are seen as alternatives.
