Borussia Dortmund have targeted Hertha BSC's Niklas Stark and Freiburg's Nico Schlotterbeck as they look to strengthen their central defensive options, according to Sport Bild.

Stark, 26, is out of contract at the end of the season and has recently been touted for a January switch to West Ham.

Schlotterbeck, 22, still has two years left on his deal with Freiburg, but recently admitted he's aiming to take the next step after becoming a part of Hansi Flick's Germany squad.

"If I perform well, even bigger clubs will come knocking," Schlotterbeck said in a recent interview with Kicker.

"I'm not a guy who necessarily wants to play in England or Spain. I always wanted to play in the Bundesliga, and preferably at the best club," added the centre-back, who has also been linked with Bayern München.
