eipzig's central defense anchor has been absent from the pitch since testing positive for COVID after his team's 0-2 loss to Hoffenheim in round 12 of the 2021/22 German Bundesliga campaign. He developed a slight fever shortly after that weekend.
Since the 29-year-old Kaiserslautern native had been fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, it was assumed that he can come down with a non-COVID related illness. His status was listed as as such when he left the squad as they were preparing for a Champions' League fixture against Brugge midweek.
Only later in the week did a round of tests confirm that Orban was in fact infected with the virus. Symptomatic cases remain rare in vaccinated individuals of Orban's age cohort. Perhaps that's why the well-known German footballer opted to take to instagram utilize his case to raise awareness of the ongoing pandemic and endorse vaccinations/boosters.
German news media picked up Orban's post (below), utilizing his quote of "whether we're 29, 42, 68 COVID doesn't stop there" as a headline.
