Castro hits out at Stuttgart after joining Bielefeld

After joining Arminia Bielefeld, midfield veteran Gonzalo Castro has questioned Stuttgart's decision to let him go on a free transfer last summer.
After spending the first half of the season as a free agent, Gonzalo Castro was recently snapped up by Arminia Bielefeld.

In an interview with Kicker, the 34-year-old explains he was baffled by the fact that Stuttgart let his contract run out ahead of this season.

"There was no offer, which was very surprising for many. For me, too, of course, it was incomprehensible," Castro told Kicker and added:

"At some point, the transfer window was closed, and the question came up: What are you going to do now?"

Arminia Bielefeld coach Frank Kramer has high hopes for the veteran midfielder, who has made a total of 409 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen, Dortmund and Stuttgart.

"He's a player who has experienced a lot and played at the highest level," said Kramer.

"When he passes on his experience, that's something that always helps a group of young players. From what I've heard from other clubs, Gonzalo is said to be someone who can contribute very well to a group."
