Freiburg head of sport Jochen Saier has confirmed that Nico Schlotterbeck has attracted interest from other clubs.

"That we have already had a few conversations with other clubs, who have shown interest in him, is quite clear," Saier told Sky Germany.

Saier added that Schlotterbeck will stay beyond the January transfer window, but a decision on whether the centre-back will leave in the summer has not yet been made.

"We will make a good decision together. But I'm not going to say that he'll definitely still be with us next season. That would be a bit overconfident."

The 22-year-old has been linked with Bayern München, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United among others.

Earlier this season, Schlotterbeck revealed that he is keen on staying in Germany, telling Kicker:

"If I perform well, even bigger clubs will come knocking.

"I'm not a guy who necessarily wants to play in England or Spain. I always wanted to play in the Bundesliga, and preferably at the best club."
