Andras Schäfer, whom German fans may recall as the one who scored a breakaway goal against the national team in the third group-stage match of this summer's European Championship, is thought to be on the verge of a move to the Bundesliga. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that the 22-year-old is in the country's capital ahead of a switch to 1. FC Union Berlin.

In total, Schäfer has actually scored three goals for his country in nine caps. The MTK Budapest academy product initially failed to assert himself in several loan outs from his second parent club, Genoa CFC, early in his career. Since a permanent switch to Slovak club FC DAC 1904 Dunajská Streda in September 2020, the midfielder has been able to push his market value up to €1.6 million.

Die Eisernen have mostly relied upon Rani Khedira and Levin Öztunali in central midfield this season, though more depth at the position could of course be useful. Schäfer usually plays either left or central, but can work higher up the pitch as well.
