It was first against third as Bayern München locked horns with Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Bayern controlled possession and shots on goal from the first whistle and were rewarded for their efforts when Niklas Süle opened the scoring after a corner with 18 minutes played.

Then, against the run of play, Leverkusen equalised in the 36th minute when Thomas Müller poked the ball into his own net after a miscommunication with Sven Ulreich, who deputized for Manuel Neuer once again.

Spurred on by their goal, the guests could easily have taken the lead before the break, but Amine Adli failed to take advantage of a couple of clear cut chances.

Bayern regained control in the second half, but failed to capitalize on their possession.

Second-half substitute Marcel Sabitzer had a glorious opportunity to score his first Bayern goal as he was sent through on goal seconds after coming on, but his shot didn't trouble Lukas Hradecky.

Ultimately, it ended in a draw, which means Bayern are nine points clear of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, who have a game in hand. Leverkusen sit third, five points behind Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Bochum beat Greuther Fürth 2-1, Hertha BSC were thrashed 1-4 by Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig drew 1-1 with Freiburg after a late equaliser while Wolfsburg secured a 1-0 win over Union Berlin.
