Bayern München are in the Champions League quarterfinals after a commanding 7-1 victory over RB Salzburg at Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening, which sent them through 8-2 on aggregate.

The first leg in Austria ended with a 1-1 draw, leaving everything open for tonight's second leg, but Bayern quickly killed off any hopes Salzburg had of advancing to the next round.

Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, slotting home from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box by Maximilian Wöber.

Wöber committed a similar offence with 21 minutes played, and Lewandowski stepped up to convert for his second goal of the evening.

Two minutes later, Lewandowski completed his hat-trick, burying the ball into the empty net after his initial shot was diverted on to the post by the advancing Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn.

Serge Gnabry then added to the scoreline just past the half hour mark, giving Bayern a 4-0 lead at the break.

Thomas Müller added Bayern's fifth in the 54th minute, unleashing a powerful shot to the back of the net.

Second-half substitute Maurits Kjærgaard pulled one back for Salzburg, but the 18-year-old's goal was only a consolation as Bayern went on to score two more goals through Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané, making it 7-1.
