Germany boss "convinced" that Wirtz will be fit for the World Cup

Germany boss Oliver Bierhoff expects Florian Wirtz to return from his long-term injury in time for the World Cup.
Germany general manager Oliver Bierhoff is "convinced" that Florian Wirtz will recover from injury in time for the World Cup, which begins in November.

Wirtz suffered a cruciate ligament rupture earlier this month. The injury is expected to keep the Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid out for six to nine months, meaning he could potentially miss the World Cup, but Bierhoff is confident that he will be fit in time for the tournament in Qatar.

"I'm utterly convinced that he will be back in time. He has a World Cup to aim for, he's young and he's nimble. We will offer him as much support as we can," said Bierhoff at a press conference today.

Wirtz has made four appearances for Germany's senior side.
