Zirkzee tepid on potential return to Bayern: "It doesn't make sense."

Twenty-year-old Dutch striker Joshua Zirkzee has been in fantastic form on loan at Belgian club RSC Anderlecht this season.

In an interview with Dutch public broadcaster Nederlandse Omrope Stichting, the young striker cast doubt on a potential return to parent club FC Bayern München.
Joshua Zirzkzee's second loan spell in as many seasons has proven a resounding success. The Dutch attacker has netted 15 goals and registered 9 assists for Belgian capital city side RSC Anderlecht this year. Going from sparse usage at Bayern to regular starts in Brussels, it's no surprise that the 20-year-old felt rather ambivalent about a move back to Germany.

"I don't think it makes sense to return to Bayern after a season during which I've played a lot," Zirkzee told Dutch public broadcaster NOS, "I just want to play. We'll see where to continue after the season and then I'll talk to Bayern."

Zirkzee is due back in Bavaria at the conclusion of the current campaign. He has been linked with other clubs, most notably Fenerbahce in Turkey, but several organizations (including Anderlecht) are a bit shy about paying the German giants the Dutchman's estimated market value of €8 million or higher.

A renewed loan might possibly be hampered by contractual issues. Zirkzee's contract with the FCB only runs through 2023. Before being loaned out again, he would have to sign a contact extension.

Whether Bayern may be interested in keeping Zirkzee at all is debatable. After debuting for Hansi Flick's FCB in late 2019, he largely fell out of favor with the previous coaching regime. New head-coach Julian Nagelsmann appears to have his preferred next generation of young attackers in Malik Tillman, Paul Wanner, and Jamal Musiala.

"I want to become an important player at Bayern," the Schiedam-native noted, "everything depends on the prospect of playing."
