Hertha provide injury updates on Schwolow and Stark
Hertha BSC confirmed that keeper Alexander Schwolow would remain out indefinitely after suffering a tendon injury in Saturday's loss to Leverkusen.
There is still hope that the team's now regular sweeper Niklas Stark might be fit again in time for the upcoming derby against 1. FC Union Berlin.
The tendon injury that forced keeper Alexander Schwolow off the pitch early on Saturday will definitely keep the former SC Freiburg net-minder out of the upcoming Berliner Stadtderby this weekend. West Berlin's capital city side confirmed this news on Tuesday, effectively stating that the club would not test the #1's tendon injury in training this week.
There is still hope that the team's now regular sweeper Niklas Stark might be fit again in time for the upcoming derby against 1. FC Union Berlin.
Hertha actually lost two players to injury in defeat. Niklas Stark had to be subbed off with a bone sprain in his ankle in the 64th minute. While Stark will be departing the club on a free transfer after the season, his use as a "bolt-lock" sweeper in the new coaching regime's tactical set-up renders him a very valuable actor in Hertha's current relegation fight.
"We will have to wait a few days and see how it develops," the club announced via its social media feed.
There was other mixed news from Hertha's Tuesday training session. Team captain Dedryck Boyata and attacking winger Marco Richter both had to sit out practice with cold symptoms. There is nevertheless very good news in the form of the return of Marvin Plattenhardt.
The set-piece taker, collector of three assists in Hertha's 3-0 win over Hoffenheim in round 27, had to sit out the Leverkusen encounter on short notice with muscular problems. The 30-year-old was nevertheless back in training on Tuesday.
