Schalke chase Lille winger - Di Santo set to leave
Schalke 04 are looking to sign Lille's Nicolas Pépé while Franco Di Santo is expected to leave the club.
Schalke 04 are looking for reinceforcements following their weak start to the season, Bild reports.
"We explore the market - and in all positions," Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel admitted to the German media outlet.
After scoring just eight goals in 10 Bundesliga games, Schalke's primary focus is said to be on strengthening the offense.
Apparently, the main transfer target is Lille's Nicolas Pépé whom the Gelsenkirchen side already showed an interest in during the summer. The Ligue 1 side reportedly put a €29 million price tag on the 23-year-old, but he ultimately decided to stay.
But Schalke's interest in Pépé hasn't cooled, and he remains a transfer target for 'The Royal Blues' in the winter or next summer.
However, there's one main problem: Pépé is said to have caught interest from some of the biggest clubs in Europe such as Manchester City, Bayern München and Manchester United - and Christian Heidel is aware of that.
"Pépé belongs to a group of players who are in question for the biggest clubs," the Schalke sporting director said.
Meanwhile, Schalke are reportedly looking to offload Franco Di Santo whose contract expires next summer. Additionally, Yevhen Konoplyanka and Breel Embolo could also leave the club in the search for more playing time.
