Report: Freiburg eye up Dortmund's Tigges as attacking reinforcement

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that SC Freiburg are interested in bringing in Dortmund U23 captain Steffen Tigges this summer.
With confirmation of the blockbuster signing of German national team defender Matthias Ginter earlier in the day, SC Freiburg have already met their incoming transfer total for all of last offseason. The Black Forest club brought just one new addition last summer; midfielder Maximilian Eggestein of SV Werder Bremen.

With European football secured for next season, the Breisgauer will obviously have to do much more in terms of roster upgrades this summer. Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that the Schwarzwälder may be looking to cash in on striker Ermedin Demirovic, still worth some €8 million despite a lackluster season (2 goals, 3 assists) in the production numbers department.

Demirovic still starts on occasion, but has mostly been supplanted by Lucas Höler and (frequently more used as a starter) Nils Petersen. Wingers and tens with goal-scoring potential like Roland Sallai, Vincenzo Grifo, Woo-Yeong Jeong have all scored more than Demirovic. Additionally, the currently injured young striker Kevin Schade's form prior to getting hurt easily makes Demirovic expendable.

To sell Demirovic for some €8 million and then buy three or four replacement players of promise would fall into the category of "classic prudent Freiburg" squad-planning. German tabloid Sport Bild reports that the SCF may wish to plunk down around €1.5 million for BVB prospect Steffen Tigges. The 23-year-old is currently recovering from a season-ending ankle injury sustained in March.
