Wolfsburg vs Bayern Munich preview: Can the champions wrap up the season with a win?

By Ben Sully

After failing to win their last two matches, Bayern Munich will be aiming to round off a memorable Bundesliga campaign with a victory over Wolfsburg on Saturday.

After finishing in fourth place last season, Wolfsburg have fallen well below expectations this term.

Ahead of the final matchday, Wolfsburg find themselves in 13th position, but they could still finish the season as high as 10th place.

Despite enduring a poor season, Die Wölfe seem to be ending the campaign on a positive note after losing just one of their last five matches.

They have the chance to extend their unbeaten run to four matches, and they also have the opportunity to clinch back-to-back victories.

Last weekend, a goal from Yannick Gerhardt proved enough to help Wolfsburg beat FC Köln to clinch a victory in their final away game of the season.

Saturday's hosts have fared well in recent home matches, winning their last two home games by a combined 9-0 scoreline.

Felix Nmecha, Luca Waldschmidt, Paulo Otavio and William will all miss out for the hosts, while Sebastiaan Bornauw is a doubt for Saturday's contest.

Bayern Munich

Although their 10th consecutive league title is already wrapped up, Bayern will be looking to return to winning ways after picking up a point from their last two matches.

After losing to Mainz, the Bavarians attempted to bounce last weekend when they played host to Stuttgart.

Despite leading Pellegrino Matarazzo's side by a 2-1 scoreline, Stuttgart managed to find an equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping his side can end the campaign with a win, but whatever the result, the Bayern boss will be pleased with the season after winning his first silverware as a head coach.

The visitors will also be aiming to reach 100 league goals for the season, but to achieve that objective, they will have to score five goals against Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Bouna Sarr and Eric Choupo-Moting could miss out due to knee problems, while Kingsley Coman is suspended after being shown a straight red card against Stuttgart.
