Magath: "We showed that we are a first division team"

Hertha BSC coach Felix Magath praised his players following today's 2-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund despite the disappointing outcome of the game.
Hertha BSC were on course to beat Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park today when they led at the break, but the Berliners ultimately fell to a 2-1 defeat.

As if the defeat wasn't painful enough in itself, the result also saw Hertha fall to 16th place behind Stuttgart, meaning they now have to beat the team that will finish third in the 2. Bundesliga in a two-legged play-off tie to stay up.

Nevertheless, Hertha coach Felix Magath had plenty of praise for his team after the final whistle.

"I've come to terms with the result. I think we played a very good game and stood up to the German runners-up for 90 minutes. In doing so, we showed that we are a first division team - and we have to do that twice more now," Magath said, looking ahead to the two play-off games.

"Heads were hanging in the dressing room, of course. ut I told the guys that life goes on. We played a good game. We don't need to blame ourselves. If you give everything, you can still lose against the team in second place like we did today," the coaching veteran added.
