Seoane doesn't expect Wirtz to return from injury before 2023

Florian Wirtz is unlikely to be able to make his return from his cruciate ligament rupture in 2022, according to Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane.
Bayer Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane is not expecting to see Florian Wirtz back in action before 2023.

Asked when he expects to see Wirtz back in training, Seoane told DPA:

"In October or probably November. If he's fit and can train, he might get a call-up to the squad [this year], but I don't expect Florian back until 2023."

Because of the winter World Cup in Qatar, the Bundesliga's winter break will begin in mid-November this year.

Whether Wirtz will be able to take part in the tournament with Germany is highly doubtful.

"He might be there at the end, and then it will be up to the national team coach to make a decision," said Seoane.
