Future Borussia Dortmund man Niklas Süle has received plenty of criticism after he chose not to travel for Bayern's last game of the season against Wolfsburg, with honorary president Uli Hoeness among those who have blasted the decision.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann's explanation - that Süle turned down the chance to replace Marcel Sabitzer in the squad at short notice because of his "emotional state" - caused a stir. But the 26-year-old centre-back, who will join Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer this summer, has a different explanation.

"That's not true. There were things said about me last weekend that simply weren't correct," Süle said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:

"Last Thursday, Julian Nagelsmann asked me whether it would be okay for me if I was not in the squad against Wolfsburg. He wanted to reward young players, who are at Bayern in the coming season and give them a run out first. For me, therefore, there was no place in the squad.

"I accepted the decision, because I had understanding for it. So it was a decision of the coaching team, who did not want me in the squad for understandable reasons. Then on Friday, when Marcel Sabitzer was injured, one of our co-trainers told me shortly before we left that I could come along if I wanted to. But it was also okay if not. That was the story.

"By the way, before the championship party on Sunday, when we were all together, Julian Nagelsmann said in front of the entire team that I had done nothing wrong and that he was sorry for that I was now a victim of this story. Everyone in the team and the team around it knows that I would never have let them down."
