FC Köln are edging closer to extending the contract of head coach Steffen Baumgart, whose current deal runs until 2023.

According to Köln managing director Christian Keller, both parties are keen to reach an agreement.

"On behalf of all FC officials, I have told him clearly that we would like to extend his contract and backed that up from my own perspective," noted Keller.

"He also clearly said that he wants to stay," emphasized the Köln chief, adding that the parties are now set to clarify the formalities.

Baumgart led 'The Billy Goats' to an impressive seventh-place finish in his first season as Köln boss.
