In a rather surprising move and out of nowhere, Borussia Dortmund have parted company with head coach Marco Rose.

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Marco Rose has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect.

According to reports, Rose will be replaced by Edin Terzic.

"This day is not an easy one for all of us, because the mutual esteem among us was, is and remains great. After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realize that in many sub-areas we did not get the maximum out of our possibilities," emphasized club CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

"Despite a difficult season with many imponderables, I was convinced of our path," added Rose.

"During our conversation, the impression matured in me that the one hundred percent conviction of all those responsible was no longer present. In the end, we therefore decided together to end the cooperation," said the 45-year-old.

Marco Rose took over as Borussia Dortmund coach in the summer of 2021, signing a contract until 2024.

He faced a lot of criticism during the 2021/22 campaign, which saw Dortmund finish second in the Bundesliga, crash out of the DFB-Pokal in the round of 16 and out of the Europa League in the knockout round play-offs after finishing third in their Champions League group.

Despite the disappointments, he received public backing from the club throughout the season.
