Germany tabloid Sport Bild now reports that Gladbach's courtship of former trainer Lucien Favre has come to a successful conclusion. The 64-year-old will return to coach the fallen giant he once revived during a four-and-a-half year stint between 2011 and 2015.

Favre's tenure at BMG is widely regarded as one of the great German footballing success stories of the past decade. The Swiss trainer led the foals out of the relegation zone in the 2010/11 campaign and into the Champions' League qualification spots the very next year.

Favre resigned from the club after a poor start to the 2015/16 campaign. After a brief stint with Nice, he then took over Borussia Dortmund in May 2016. Favre has not been employed since getting the axe following a BVB loss to VfB Stuttgart in round 11 of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign.

According to the report, BMG sporting director Roland Virus immediately reached out to his former colleague once it became clear that Adi Hütter would not continue on as the club's current trainer. Talks stretched on a bit, but Favre was ultimately convinced to return.

Favre should be unveiled as the signee of a two-year-contract this coming Sunday, as per Sport Bild.
