Report: Dortmund leap ahead in race for Kalajdzic

By Peter Vice

Munich tabloid "tz" reports that Borussia Dortmund retain the advantage in the race to sign VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic.

With Robert Lewandowski's status for next season uncertain, the Westphalians can offer the towering Austrian target-forward better prospects for playing time.

If, as has been reported, talks between VfB Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic and German giants FC Bayern München are taking place, Munich's "Tageszeitung" tabloid claims that the league champions are falling behind. Kalajdzic has also been approached by Dortmund, according to the paper.

Sebastian Kehl and the BVB administrative team have a better angle to sell to the 24-year-old. Namely, they can promise him starts as a center-forward as a like-for-like replacement for the departed Erling Haaland.

With Lewandowski's status next season still up in the air, Bayern can make no such promises. In point of fact, Kalajdzic could quite possibly expect to find himself deprived of playing time just like recent high-profile signings Alexander Nübel and Marcel Sabitzer.

Based on such issues, Kalajdzic is said to be considering whether a move to the FCB would be the right next step in his career. The Austrian striker's management team is also apparently "unsettled" about the lack of commitment from Bayern.

The article goes on to claim that presumptive new Dortmund trainer Edin Terzic happens to be a strong proponent of building his attack around the new addition.
