Yussuf Poulsen: 'Nobody in Denmark likes the way I play football'

RB Leipzig's Yussuf Poulsen says his playing style isn't appreciated in Denmark.
Over the years, Yussuf Poulsen has become a real fan favourite among RB Leipzig's supporters due to his mentality, will to always work hard and physicality.

This season, Poulsen has also contributed with a notworthy amount of goals, netting nine times in 19 appearances.

But according to the 24-year-old Danish striker, his playing style isn't as appreciated in his home country as it is in Germany.

"Nobody in Denmark likes the way I play football. I don't know why. I just know that they would much rather see Christian Eriksen play. The Danes see him as the perfect footballer because of his technical ability, playing style and the entertainment he brings," Poulsen told Danish media outlet BT and added:

"That's the way it is. People are entitled to their opinion. In Germany, they would much rather watch me play than Christian Eriksen. They attach greater importance to some things than the Danes do."

Poulsen has netted six times in the Bundesliga this season and has thus scored just as many goals as his striking partner Timo Werner.

Poulsen doesn't exactly have the same reputation as Werner, who is widely regarded as one of the Bundesliga's best strikers, but the 24-year-old Dane sees himself on par with the German international.

"Some would say that I'm currently better than Timo Werner, but others will say that I'm not. But that doesn't matter in principle, because we are teammates and we play together. But it's maybe a good thing if there's doubt about who is the best player. That way, we constantly push each other in the right direction," Poulsen said.

Yussuf Poulsen, who joined RB Leipzig in 2013, has made 34 appearances for the Danish national team with five goals to his name.
