Report: Wolfsburg interested in Mattias Svanberg's services

Thomas Hiete of German footballing magazine Kicker confirms a report appearing in the Sweden's Sportbaldet claiming that VfL Wolfsburg may be interested in acquiring Bologna midfielder Matias Svanberg.
The gap in VfL Wolfsburg's central midfield created by the departure of Xaver Schlager earlier this summer may prove more difficult to fill than orginaially anticipated. Recent news that midfielder/fullback/winger Yannick Gerhardt will miss at least two months with a knee injury may necessitate a new acquisition for Germany's green company team.

New VfL trainer Niko Kovac still has options on his unusually large 35-man roster, yet experience and proven ability at Germany's top footballing level remain at a premium. Thomas Hiete of German footballing magazine Kicker, currently embedded with the Lower Saxon club, confirms a report appearing in a Swedish sports publication claiming that the German Wolves might be interested in Swedish international Matters Off Svanberg of Bologna F.C.

The 23-year-old 21-times capped Blaugult would certainly not come cheap. Svanberg maintains an estimated market worth of €15 million inn the latest transfermarkt listings. Hiete writes that Wolfsburg may be able to fetch the trained and proven anchoring defensive midfielder for around €8 to €10 million. The Serie A club should be keen to offload Svanberg as he enters the final year of his contract. The former Mälmo product would bring with him the experience of 117 appearances in Italy's top flight.
