After losing Armel Bella-Kotchap and Maxim Leitsch this summer, second-year Bundesliga club VfL Bochum have opted to snatch up unemployed Braunschweig-native Jannes Horn on a free. The former 1. FC Köln left-back/central defender--after falling into disuse with die Geißböcke--found himself without a footballing home this summer when the cathedral city club did not renew his expiring contract.

With 64 combined appearances for Köln and VfL Wolfsburg, Horn does bring with him a significant amount of top-flight experience.

"His Bundesliga experience will prove valuable to us, "VfL managing director Sebastian Schindzielorz noted in a statement accompanying the signing, "Jannes Horn can be used variably on the left side or also as a central defender. He knows the demands of the league and has proven at different clubs that he will reinforce the squad."

"When the offer came from VfL, I didn't have to think twice," Horn himself noted, "I'm looking forward to playing for the team and hope that we celebrate staying in the league together at the end of the season."
