Timo Werner is back at RB Leipzig, having re-joined the club he left to sign for Chelsea in 2020.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday after his move back to Germany was made official last night, Werner opened up on the key factors behind his decision to return.

"I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about other clubs as well. After careful consideration, however, it became clear relatively quickly that the move back to Leipzig would be a very good one. Next to the club, the coach is the most important component for the player. I had very good talks with Domenico Tedesco. We're both Swabians, so we can communicate very well (laughs). We were very taken by the idea of working together afterwards," Werner told reporters and added:

"Of course, I also had my sights set on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. I want to prepare for that in the best possible way - and the best way to do that is through playing time. I didn't get that in my second year at Chelsea FC. Therefore, I wanted to move to a familiar environment without a long acclimatization period, where I get the opportunity to play, where I know what kind of football is played, and the club also knows how I play.

"Another aspect was the city itself: Everyone knows I felt very comfortable here. London is a huge city, and I'm going to miss London a lot. But it's nice to be able to visit typical German bakeries again and buy typical German food. At the same time, the way home is much shorter again now. I think I have only been able to visit my family once in the past two years.

"I'm just looking forward to Germany again and to being able to experience the Bundesliga. It's a very, very big league, not much inferior to the Premier League. And I'm also looking forward to seeing our fans. I've always had a very good relationship with them. The people of Leipzig have supported me even in the tough times. I'm really up for the chance to play in front of them again."
