Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen returned to the Bundesliga with a promising performance against
Wolfsburg last weekend. Despite falling behind two quickfire goals from Niclas Füllkrug and Leonardo Bittencourt gave Werder Bremen a 2-1 lead at half time. Although they looked set to claim all three points, Josua Guilavogui scored late on to ensure the contest ended 2-2.

The newly-promoted side may have been disappointed to miss out on the victory, but they would have taken confidence from a promising performance. They also extended their run of scoring in each of Ole Werner's 21 competitive games in charge.

Although the opening day draw extended Werder Bremen's winless Bundesliga run to 11 matches, they will hope that their first home game of the season also results in the first league win of their new campaign.

Goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka is a doubt for the contest, while Werder Bremen are expected to be without the services of Jean-Manuel Mbom, Christian Gross and Bittencourt due to injury issues.

Stuttgart

After narrowly avoiding a relegation playoff last season, Stuttgart are looking for a much-improved campaign this around.

The early signs seem to be positive for Pellegrino Matarazzo's side, who beat Dynamo Dresden 1-0 in the first-round of the DFB-Pokal before drawing 1-1 against RB Leipzig last weekend.

After falling behind in the eighth minute against a Champions League side, Stuttgart may have believed they were in for a long afternoon, but a Naouirou Ahamada effort in the 31st minute proved enough to hold Leipzig to a 1-1 draw.

Stuttgart will now turn their attention to their first away match of the season, where they will be aiming to end a 10-game winless away run in the Bundesliga.

Although their away form last season may have been poor, Stuttgart can take confidence from the fact they have avoided defeat in their last five meetings with Werder Bremen.

The visitors will be without the services of Nikolas Nartey, Tanguy Coulibaly and Thomas Kastanaras, who are all sidelined through injury.
