Report: Köln focus on Pohjanpalo as favored Modeste replacement

The FC Kölner "Geißblog" reports that the cathedral city side have identified Leverkusen striker Joel Pohjanpalo as their preferred Anthony Modeste replacement.
Not for the first time, Finnish striker Joel Pohjanpalo is being linked with 1. FC Köln. The Effzeh of Germany's cathedral city have flirted with the notion of bringing the 27-year-old to the club in the past. The club's fan-run "Geißblog" claims that the Leverkusen attacker edges out other candidates such as Leipzig's Alexander Sørloth and former Köln forward Jhon Cordoba as the favored solution to fill the void left by the departed Anthony Modeste.

Pohjanpalo's departure from Leverkusen before the current transfer window closes is treated as a given. Whether or not Germany's red company team wishes to supply their neighboring club with a potential-laden attacking talent, however, remains to be seen. The Geißblog does not suggest that negotiations are very far along, noting only that the player previously loaned out to Malen, Düsseldorf, Hamburger SV, and Union Berlin will sign a fresh contract with the Domstädter next week.
