FC Köln were hit by bad luck in yesterday's 0-0 draw with VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, as Julian Chabot, Mathias Olesen, Eric Martel and Benno Schmitz all picked up injuries.

While the extent of Olesen's injury is still unclear, 'The Billy Goats' have now provided an update on Chabot, Martel and Schmitz.

"'Jeff' Chabot and Benno Schmitz both picked up ankle injuries. While Schmitz can be treated conservatively, Chabot requires surgery and will be absent for a longer period of time," the club revealed.

"Eric Martel broke the metacarpal in his hand. The midfielder will head to a specialist in order to discuss the best course of treatment with the medical staff."

Since Chabot faces a longer period on the sidelines, Köln may strengthen in defence before the transfer window closes on Thursday.

"With the injury injury, we now have a new situation on our hands," said Köln managing director Christian Keller.

"We'll look at the transfer market over the next few days and see if we’ll make a sensible addition in defence."
