Matters don't get any easier for the Bavarian Swabians. On Friday evening, Maaßen's men must square off against streaking SV Werder Bremen in the 2022/23 campaign's round six curtain-raiser. After that, there is the small matter of facing the mighty FC Bayern München before the international break.
The brief respite near the end of December serves as opportunity for many Bundesliga sides potentially looking to make a coaching change. Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that Stefan Reuter and the FCA brass are contemplating just that. Waiting in the wings, according to the publication, is none other than top tier journeyman Bruno Labbadia.
The 56-year-old former coach of no fewer than eight German football clubs has been unemployed since Hertha opted to release him in January 2021. Should Labbadia be brought in to coach Augsburg, it will be the sixth top tier side that he has run.
