Two struggling sides looking for a win

On Saturday, Stuttgart will look to claim their first win of the Bundesliga season when they face a Wolfsburg side, who have won only one game this term.

Niko Kovač may only be seven league games into his tenure as Wolfsburg boss, but he is already facing a battle to keep his job, with Wolfsburg currently sitting in the relegation zone with five points to their name.

Their opening seven Bundesliga matches have yielded one victory, three draws and three defeats. A 1-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday six offered hope of a positive run of results, but any chance of claiming consecutive league victories was ended by league leaders Union Berlin who clinched a 2-0 victory.

The defeat to Union highlighted Wolfsburg's struggles in the final third. Kovač's side have failed to score in four of their seven league matches, while no other team in the Bundesliga has scored fewer goals this season.

Ahead of Saturday's contest, Wolfsburg may take some comfort from the fact they have scored four of their five league goals at home. Although, they are still searching for their first home victory of the season after drawing two and losing one of their opening three home games.

If they can secure three points at the weekend, Wolfsburg will move above Stuttgart and out of the bottom three.

Kovač has confirmed that Lukas Nmecha will miss Saturday's game due to a knee injury. The hosts are also unable to call upon Patrick Wimmer, Jerome Roussillon and Jonas Wind.

Stuttgart

Stuttgart may have the same number of points as their hosts, but they are still searching for their first win of the Bundesliga season. While they have only lost twice in their opening seven games, a failure to convert any of their five draws into victories have hampered their progress.

As a result of their habit of drawing games, Stuttgart finished matchday seven in the relegation playoff spot. Fortunately for the visitors, Bayer Leverkusen's 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Friday moved them out of the bottom three on goal difference.

A 2-2 draw against the German champions in their most recent away would have raised the mood in the Stuttgart dressing room, but they were quickly brought down to earth following a 3-1 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt before the international break.

While Stuttgart are yet to lose on their travels this season following three consecutive draws, they are winless in their previous 13 away matches in the Bundesliga, which will be a cause for concern ahead of Saturday's contest.

Josha Vagnoman is expected to miss out for the hosts due to an ankle injury. Borna Sosa could be involved after taking part in training despite Pellegrino Matarazzo previously stating that the Croatia international was a doubt.
