Marco Reus releases statement after injury destroys his World Cup dream
Marco Reus has taken to Instagram to state his feelings about not going to the World Cup because of an injury.
After being left out of Germany coach Hansi Flick's World Cup squad due to an injury, Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus has released a statement on Instagram.
As some have surely already seen, I will not be able to go to the World Cup. After my setback in training last Sunday, everyone involved has tried everything possible in the last few days to make my participation at the World Cup possible after all. However, because of my ankle injury, I will not be fit for the World Cup.
"A special thanks goes out to all those, who have given everything to help me in the past weeks. I would also like to thank Germany coach Hansi Flick and team doctor Jochen Hahne, who also tried all they could! In the end, however, we all had to realize that it wasn't enough.
"I wish I could share better news with you, but unfortunately that's not the case. And I and everyone else have to accept that. A big dream of mine has unfortunately burst because of this! Now I wish my team in Qatar all possible success and will keep my fingers crossed from home! See you on the pitch!"
Commenting on Reus' absence, Germany coach Hansi Flick said at a press conference today:
"It hurts. He is good for every team with his qualities. We will miss him."
It's the second time that an injury prevents Reus from taking part in the World Cup. Back in 2014, he suffered a torn syndesmosis ligament in Germany's last test match before leaving for Brazil.
