Müller: Füllkrug has proved that he knows where the goal is

At a press conference today, Thomas Müller discussed Germany's attacking options, including the competition from in-form forward Niclas Füllkrug.
Thomas Müller has acknowledged that he might not start up front again when Germany face Costa Rica in their last World Cup group stage game on Thursday.

Müller started up top against Spain and was replaced by Niclas Füllkrug in the 70th minute. Füllkrug went on to score the vital equaliser in Germany's 1-1 draw with 'La Roja' and is now pushing to make his first start for Hansi Flick's team.

"'Fülle' is the one wearing the number 9 shirt," Müller told reporters at a press conference today when asked if he or Füllkrug will play as a No. 9 against Costa Rica.

"But you have to ask the coach about everything regarding formation and tactics. It will be a different game than against Spain, and we we have good options. Niclas has proved that he knows where the goal is," added Müller.

Even if Müller has the advantage of being able to play anywhere across the front line, he isn't guaranteed to start.

"If we didn't have so many good offensive players, it would be easy: 'Lücke' up front front and me behind. But Hansi is spoiled for choice with the quality we have in the squad," said Müller.

"We offer ourselves in training, and then it's up to the coach to decide. Leroy [Sané] is also an option to start."
